Genetic Testing on the fetus? |
In what circumstances might genetic tests be carried out on a fetus, and what could they be testing for? I mean what sort of genetic problems could they be looking for such as; If there are genetic diseases in the family they might test for this in early stages while abortion is still an option. Also in some rare cases they may perform a paternity test to determine who the father is, but this is usually done after the birth. I can't recall of the circumstances they do that in, but it's not common. They would be testing for genetic defects. I would assume they would do this if you had an abnormal triple screen, of advanced maternal age, or have a family history of defects. |
