I gave oral with coldsores on my mouth. Is there any chance I could have given genital herpes? Thanks.?

yes there is a possiblilty of that happening, spceially if u didn't use condoms. cold sores are oral herpes or herpes symplex type1. it wouldn't be the genital type or type2 it would be type1 on the gentials. i had cold sores transfered to my gentials so its possible.

ABSOLUTELY!! I have genital herpes (type 2 strain). My husband had them when we met and I contracted them consciously a year later when we decided to get married. We've been married 10 years and have one child........anyways.....Herpes isn't the WORST std you can get or give, it's actually one of the more common ones out there. I've been living with it for 10 years now.

So in answer to your question, yes, oral cold sores are the same type of virus as genital cold sores, just a different strain and they can definitely be transferred orally to genitals from your mouth. The weird thing about hereps virus is that is shows its ugly head in many different forms and areas of the body. The most common one being the almighty cold sore on the face (lips/nose), then there's genital herpes, then the herpes zoster virus that shows up as what we call Shingles. That is the absolute worst kind to have..... mostly older people get them.

Herpes will most likely show up within a week or two of exposure. Sometimes people remain asymptomatic and are only shedders....this is uncommon tho. Herpes are not life threatening and are very liveable! I know!

It's mostly likely you did give whoever Type 1 Herpes. (cold sores). Someone gave them to me like that too. They are on the genitals, but they aren't considered Genital Herpes. If this happens, please make sure you are there for whoever you did this to. It's prob. not going to be fun. sorry.
