Can you get genital herpes this way?

If you get herpes cold sores on your lips is it possible for you to spread it to your genitals. Becouse I ended up with herpes type 1 and my husband whom is the only person i have had any sexual relations with does not have it. I usually get a cold sore every year or up to twice a year. Problem is im pregnant with our second child. hubby has never had a cold sore before we have been together 7 years. Had my 1st outbreak in january last cold sore on my lips was september. some ppl tell me you can some ppl tell me you cant. how ele would i have got it??

If you give your husband oral sex WHILE YOU HAVE A COLD SORE.... he could get genital herpes..

You have type 1 and it prefers to live on the face (mouth, eyes) and he'd probably get 1 or 2 outbreaks in his lifetime IF HE CAUGHT IT FROM YOU. Type 2 is the type that prefers the genitals.

So just don't give him a BJ when you have a cold sore - very simple

YES-HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS -hsv-1 can cause sores in the genital but still HSV 1this IS TRANSMITTED WITH ORAL SEX or you or your hubby could get if had on mouth or inside and didn't wash hand well
You can carry this type herpes for years and most likely got as a child and it will come and go you could of transmitted your self or given to hubby and he transmitted to your lower half it will go away but need to hold off on sex for awhile till you are clear

Once you have cold sores, they will come out from no where. It happens to my best friend all the time.

Has your mouth been in contact with your genitals during an outbreak? I believe that is how it would spread.

sometimes people have herpes for a life and it never come up.

honestly, i am kinda going through the same thing.
My b/f of 2 1/2 years gets cold sores. From what his mom says, even since he waas real young. W/e. But we have been together unprotected for awhile. Well a long time. But I have never had anything. Cold sore or genital herpes. But I went to the doctors yesturday for a checkup and they wanted tot ake blood for thyroid and stuff so they asked if i wanted to get tested for any std, since they were taking blood anyways. I said yes. I should have the results today. XXX my fingers. Even if i ended up with it. I love him and he didnt really know cold sores were herpes. So i cant even blame him...really.

He probably does have it but just doesnt break out. Same with me.
And you probably got it from anything, doesnt have to be sexual. Same as y guy...who knows.

Three possibilities - but none of them are very satisfying.

First, you could have self-infected from your own mouth to your own genitals. If you picked at a cold sore and then immediately masturbated, it is possible to self infect. It is very very unlikely though. And if you did self-infect HSV1 on your genitals, the symptoms would almost certainly be so mild that you wouldn't notice them.

Second, you could have had genital herpes for years and just not known. You may have caught genital herpes before you met your husband, and for some reason are just now noticing the first symptoms.

Third, your husbands blood test may be inaccurate. There is lots of anecdotal information about incorrect herpes blood tests. I suspect that the blood tests are actually quite reliable, but even very accurate blood tests are wrong every once in a while.

That's all I can think of. I'm so sorry for your diagnosis, but wish you all the best with your coming new baby!

if one of your friends has them u could have gotten it from sharing things like drinks, lipgloss, chapstick, utensils ciggaretts. you could have gotten them from a relative who has them and they kissed u when u were a baby.
it is possible to spread cold sores to your genitals but they woudn't be gential herpes (type2) they would be oral herpes on your genitals. u can do this if u touch a cold sore then directly touch "down there" or even by touching then wiping. cold sores on the lips i don't think causes any problems in pregnancy but the ones "down there" can. just try to remember not to kiss your baby when u have a cold sore on your lips.
