I had the symtoms of genital herpes but the blood tests came back negative... Was this really herpes?

Is it possible that I had another disease? is it possible for the blood test to be inaccurate?

I'm ALWAYS entertained to see someone claim to be an RN and then say something SO UNEDUCATED!!!!
When you have a herpes outbreak (sores) they'll take a swab of the sore - which can give false negatives..OR DO A BLOOD TEST - which is 100% accurate!!!

If the blood test was negative - you do not have herpes so the rash or symptom you're feeling is something else
Tell us the symptoms & we'll try to help

It is possible that the blood test you had called, serology, which is used to test for HSV-2 infection or an HSV-1 infection may have been flawed. Sometime the test can't detect HSV-2 antibodies when HSV-1 antibodies are also present. They have much more accurate tests now but some doctors are still using the old ones. The good thing about a serology test is that it can detect the antibodies from a past infection. Other wise you have to have an active lesion at the time of the appointment to be cultured.
If you get another lesion you can probably bet it is herpes but it wouldn't hurt to ask for another blood test where they use one of these particular tests:
HerpeSelect庐 HSV-1 and HSV-2 ELISA
HerpSelect庐 immunoblot
Western blot
biokit HSV-2
Good Luck

Actually herpes can be detected through a blood test. If you've had the virus long enough, your body is producing antibodies, which is detected through the blood. If you've recently contracted it, the antibodies might not be present, which can cause the test to be negative. The next time you have a lesion/bump, go to the Dr and let them do a culture. Herpes is usually only confused with a yeast infection, jock itch (in men), and /or BV infection. Here's some info on herpes. Good Luck!!

The blood test is NOT 100% accurate. The swab test is more accurate.

Blood tests for herpes quite often give false negatives - the rate is about 5-10%.

Plus, it can take a long time for the antibodies to show up in your blood work. There are lots of people who have had diagnosed herpes outbreaks, but do not test positive on the blood test. I have met people online who took a year or two to test positive.

It is like catching fish swimming in a sea. Very often you will catch some, but sometimes you won't. Just because you don't catch any does not mean the sea has no fish, and just because you don't test positive on the blood test does not mean you don't have it.

How long after you first had symptoms did you have the blood test? It takes at least 3-6 months on average to get a positive result. If you had your test within this time, there is a high likelihood the test was pointless and you were getting a false negative reading on it because you tested too soon.

there is always room for error , BUT WHY ARE YOU QUESTIONING A TEST THAT A DR. ORDERED ??we out here are suppose to be able to counterdict a Dr. ??just keep going back when you have symptoms that need to be treated , if he was wrong he will catch it , or you can go to another Dr. have the blood drawn and get another opionion.

If it was Herpes, chances are you'll have an outbreak sometime in the future at which time you could go back to your doc. and present the lesions.

There's no cure (that I know of) only supression therapies...

herpes is tested by taking cultures with swabs of an active lesion, not thru blood test.

it could be that you just have a horrible ingrown hair... blood test are 100% accurate to detect to see if you have any disease

could have been garanella, symptoms are the same but is just a virus
