Contracting genital herpes? TIme frame to expect symptoms?

I recently had sex with a girl with genital herpes. I wore a condom and she took valtrex. Im still nervous. Anyone have an idea of when the average time that symptoms willl occur, if they do? Any suggestions of how I should feel about now?

If you are going to have a symptomatic first outbreak, it should happen in the first couple of weeks.

But you may contract (and spread) herpes and never have any symptoms at all.

You should know that studies with couples that refrained from sex during outbreaks and in which the infected partner took Valtrex showed less than a 1% per year transmission rate. And only some of the couples in the study used condoms.

Good job taking care of yourself - and for not rejecting this woman because of her herpes.

because herpes is a viral infection you may never have symptoms...it can lay dormant in your system and you may never have an outbreak.....like most viral infections it makes it hard for people to determine the exact time of contact unless the person who was initially infected confesses to their current state......some people have outbreaks when they are stressed of due to some environmental changes...emotional changes...however you may just have one to have one...there are antiviral meds like valtrex which prevent outbreaks they can be taken as a prophylactic.....
