Genital herpes and brazilian wax?

should people who have genital herpes stay away from waxing?
should you inform them you have herpes before they wax you?
or does it not matter?

Well, I have my bikini area waxed and I had never given it a second thought - and I have genital herpes.

It doesn't cause outbreaks for me or anything.

I don't see why you should inform them you have genital herpes before they wax you - I never would and never have. Obviously I would cancel if I had an outbreak, but that is for my own comfort.

People who get cold sores (oral herpes) don't inform their dentists, and don't tell their beautician before she waxes their upper lip - they would never see a need, and neither do I. They aren't at risk of catching genital herpes from you by touching you, because their genitals are not making contact with your genitals. And one in four women they treat has genital herpes, just like 8 in 10 a dentist sees have oral herpes. That is just the way it is.

You can pass herpes even when there is no outbreak present, due to shedding. I would suggest calling around anonymously to a few salons that wax and ask their policy. I believe that the bikini waxer must wear gloves, which would be no different then visiting your gyno for a pelvic exam.

Since genital Herpes are STD's I would inform the people doing the waxing, that would be the polite roll.

Waxing can cause an outbreak to occur and can spread the virus to other nearby areas that hadn't been affected previously. I wouldn't recommend it.

As long as you do not have an out break when getting your wax you will be fine.... There is a HUGE misconception out there that people with herpes are dirty and can pass it on to anyone at anytime.ITS SO WRONG.
You can only pass this disease on if you have an outbreak ie. open bisters and all the symptoms that go along with it and there is skin on skin contact like sex-oral sex-kissing...

You go about your business as per any other normal person with or without herpes. Do you tell people or every person you come into contact with that you have the flu or a cold? Because they are much more contagious and prevelant than genital herpes......
