What's the chance of me passing genital herpes to my partner while I'm taking Valtrex?!?

I've been taking Valtrex for about 6 months and I can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for. I've seen the commercials for Valtrex and been to Valtrex.com as well. But it always says that taking Valtrex will lower your risk of passing it on to someone else. Are we talking like a 20% chance of me passing it on or more like a 50% chance?

Can anyone tell me what the risk is? I'd like to be able to tell my bf "There's a __% chance of you getting genital herpes if you sleep w/me".

Thanks!

Chance of passing it on, without valtrex or protection, but avoiding outbreaks: 10% a year max.

Chance of passing it on when using valtrex: 5% a year max. The figure is usually quoted as 4%.

Condoms are not very reliable at preventing the spread of herpes - especially from a woman to a man. This is because you are infectious on the areas not covered by a condom, so you can still spread it. They provide a protection factor of about 40% at the very most.

Other than using valtrex, the best thing you can do is avoid contact when you experience any prodrome (warning symptoms), right through until a week after the outbreak has completely healed. Be very careful about having contact when you have a cold or another virus, or are very tired or run down. The virus is much more likely to activate then. I have read studies that suggest having a partner who has informed you they are infected and is very careful of their symptoms immediately drops your risk of catching it by 50% - as much as valtrex.

There is always a chance of passing it on even on Valtrex. My ex-hubby gave me this wonderful gift that keeps on giving (though I have not had an outbreak in over 10 years) and I understand the spot you're in.

There is no set percentage that you can quote with any certainty which is why you should still use a condom.

It isn't horrible, it's just something to live with. But please, tell him for the sake of being honest.

Please please please be careful. I just found out yesterday that I contracted herpes from someone taking Valtrex. So yes you can still pass it along I'm proof of that.

as commercial states:u may always transmit herpes to your parter even w/out an outbreak!!!so,protection is going to be ur best option!!
