If you have genital herpes, will it show up on a pap smear?

i made a huge mistake a while back and cheated on my boyfriend..it has been almost 7 months, would i have gotten an outbreak already if i had it? am i just freaking out about nothing?

it wouldn't show on a pap smear unless u had an outbreak at the time. pap smears usually detect genital warts and cervical cancer. it would show up on a blood test. the test will tell u what type u have but not the location. its possible that u would have had an outbreak already if u had herpes. the outbreak could have been very mild so u may not have known it was herpes. normally it takes 2-30 days to appear on the body after being with an infected person. u could be a carrier which means that u would have little or no symptoms and outbreaks. u should get tested for herpes to find out if u have it for sure.

No, it would not show up on a pap smear.. Also, it is possible to be infected and not have any symptoms.

There is a blood test that can be done to check for herpes antibodies, but it is not extremely reliable as I understand it. The most definitive way is if they see a blister they think might be herpes, take a smear of fluid from it, and try to culture the virus.

Sorry it's not that simple for you, but herpes is an elusive little virus that mostly hides out in neurons when it's not causing outbreaks.

Will Pap smear show genital herpes? On rare cases, a Pap smear may indicate the presence of damaged cells that have been infected with the Herpes Simplex Virus type 2. At this point however, Pap smear tests are not reliable as a test for Herpes virus detection.

Genital herpes wouldn't show on a pap smear. Pap smears test for HPV, not herpes. Herpes can lie dormant in your system for years before it shows up. Go to your doctor and get a blood test to determine if you have any STDs, because he may have had something else too.

good luck.

Genital herpes is usually tested for by blood work or visual exam with cultures of any lesions.
