Does HSV2 automatically mean genital herpes? |
I was recently diagnosed for hsv2 but I don't ever recall having blisters. The tests came back negative for hsv1 but last year I got a pimple in the corner of my mouth which burst leaving a sore but a pharmacist advised it could just a infection as I hadn't had a cold sore before a few days later a pimple occured on the other side of my mouth and did the same thing... any possiblity that hsv2 is not specific to genital herpes and if it isn't am I still at risk with passing on hsv2 thru intercourse? People can contract HSV1 in the genital area, and they can contract HSV2 in the oral area. They're not "native" to either region, which means that having either one in one area does not necessarily mean having it in the other. If you've never had a single breakout in your genital area, then it's unlikely that it's in your genital area. HSv2 refers to genital herpes. HSV1 referes to the oral type of herpes (cold sores). both types come from the same herpes virus, but both types can affect either the mouth or genitals. they are usually passed on through either oral or regular intercourse. Here's the low down - a very close friend of mine has had to deal with this and although you may be feeling isolated due to the stigma attached to this diagnosis, you are not alone...with that said; this hopefully will give you an explanation on the virus - HSV-1 = oral herpes or cold sores (millions upon millions of people have this virus) and |
