Would having genital herpes cause an abnormal pap smear? |
Would having genital herpes cause an abnormal pap smear? no. pap smears are usually used to detect HPV which is not related to herpes and normally not caught on pap smears. if u are worried about herpes then get a blood test done or if u have symptoms or an out break then get a swab culture done. u may want to find out what the abnormalities are in your pap and call the doctors office back. No abnormal smears are caused by the hpv virus (wart virus), herpes is a separate virus, however if you have been exposed to one sti you should always keep up with your smears just in case as there are no physical signs of the strain of hpv that cause cervical changes |
