My wife has genital herpes..should she have a csection? |
can she choose what she wants? well i can sleep w/her because i'm the one who gave it to her..i didn't know i had it...and yes i feel like the scum of the earth everyday...so u dont need to point that out either...accidents happen.and we're dealing with it... If she hasn't had an outbreak in awhile and doesn't have one around or at the time of deliver she should be able to choose how she has the baby. Now if she's been having outbreaks throughout her pregnancy, she will have to have a csection no doubt about it. It's in the best interest of the baby and the health of the baby to have a csection if she's had repeated outbreaks. Yes, she can choose what she wants provided she does not have an active case of herpes in her vagina or on her cervix or labia at the time she is going into labour. If she has an active case, then she must usually have a C-sec, there's no way around this w/out endangering the life of your unborn child. And let's get very clear on this issue: Babies who contract herpes from their mothers while being born through their vaginas CAN and DO die. They also can end up blind and profoundly mentally retarded. You've been growing and looking forward to this baby for almost 9 months now. It is NOT worth taking any risks to insist upon a vaginal birth. Birth is one day, and the healing time from a c-sec is about 6 weeks to 2 months. The sequelae from your child contracting herpes from its mother can be lifelong. There are in fact, doctors who will refuse to do a vaginal birth with you if your wife has an active outbreak, or has had one in the six weeks before birth. Are you speaking about an elective c-sec here? If there is a choice, then obviously, don't have the cesaerian, if there is no choice, I'm not clear why you're posting. yes she has a choice but she should be having regular check ups and talking to her doctor about the way she wants to deliver her baby and if its safe for her to do so. She needs to discuss this issue with her doctor. At one time, they did c-sections on all women who had herpes. They no longer do. I believe they test the blood to see the viral load (i.e. flareup) and if the load is low, a vaginal birth is safe. If she has had regular outbreaks during pregnancy or has had one near to term, then they will insist on a c-section. Does she have an option to insist upon a c-section? No, but she only has to search out an OB that is happy to do c-sections on anyone and s/he will do it. See article below. She probably should. At the very least, she should consort with her doctor and let him know of her disease. I am sure if she has an active outbreak, the doctor is going to recommend a cesarean. These days, I am hearing you can spread it even without an outbreak. You two are in this together, so you two need to talk to the doctor. i am sooo sorry to hear this... but yes she should speak to a doctor i hope both of you can get help. Eww... yeah if it can prevent the baby from getting it, definitely. How can you sleep with her knowing that anyways?? Do you want herpes?? |
