Is anyone here pregnant or gone through a pregnancy with genital herpes...?

I really need some feedback.

Were there any complications and was the baby healthy ?

Did you have a c-section.

I am on my second pregnancy. I have had genital herpes for about 7 years and have had very few outbreaks. With both pregnancies they put me on Valtrex at 36 weeks as a precaution. I had a vaginal birth with my son and he is and was perfectly healthy. I am due next week and am planning on another vaginal delivery. As long as you are not having an outbreak at the time of delivery a vaginal delivery is fine. Good luck

I wouldn't take the chances of having a vaginal birth because what if theres only a 10% chance that he or she will get genital herpes would you take that chance? Gambling on your child life by doing that its like playing russian roulette. you never know the out come. take the c-section its the safest, because what if he or she does get herpes? that wouldn't be fair to her or him. Don't gamble his or her life because you want a normal child birth because what if you have a baby girl and she gets herpes will she be able to have a normal child hood? or a normal relationship just because you wanted a normal birth instead of a c-section people have c-section all the time its not a big deal some prefer it because its less painful then having to push something out. but either way i don't mean to accuse you of anything i'm very sure you will be a good mother otherwise you wouldn't be asking these question :) good luck on what ever you choose!

I'm pregnant with my first and I have had genital herpes for 5 years now. I haven't had an outbreak in 2 years and don't take valtrex anymore.

My Dr. says that they will put me on valtrex during the last trimester to prevent an outbreak so that I can deliver vaginally. I really want to deliver vaginally, but part of me is considering a c-section just to be safe. I figure I have some time to decide. But I'm doing some looking into the idea as well! :)

I know 2 woman who have herpes and even when they aren't having a breakout the Dr said they still have to have a c-sectoin to protect the baby. They ended up having the c-sections.

sorry, but i havent and i dont know anyone that has, but i would assume they would do a c-section to make sure the baby wasnt in contact with them.

I have not gone through this but my friend has. She delivered vaginally and her baby is fine. They did have to put some drops in his eyes but otherwise he is ok.
