ZOVIRAX confusion for genital herpes!! HELP!!?

Hello, I have genital herpes and I always get confused with the dosage, is it better to take the 200mg 5 times per day for 5 days or the 800mg 3 times day day for 2 days?!?! what is the difference? please if you really know, help me

DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Viral illnesses differ from bacterial infections in that viruses are not living organisms, but rather take over living cells and reproduce themselves, often at the expense of the host cell. Acyclovir is an antiviral drug which acts against the Herpes viruses, including herpes simplex 1 and 2 (cold sores and genital herpes), varicella-zoster (shingles and chicken pox), and the Epstein-Barr virus (mononucleosis). Acyclovir inhibits the replication of viral DNA needed to reproduce itself. Virally infected cells absorb more acyclovir than normal cells and convert more of it to an active form which prolongs its antiviral activity where it is most needed.

depends on how many pills u want to pop in a day. the only difference is 800mg would be stronger then 200mg so u would have to take less in a day with the stronger one. talk to your doctor or the pharmacy where u got the medication from. there could be some nasty side affects if u get medication that is too strong for u.

Ask your doc. I take valtrex 500mg a day to supress herpes. When I was diagnosed with herpes i took 1000mg 2 times a day for 20 days.
