What is the difference of genital herpes hsv1 and genital herpes hsv2? |
is those two virus the same or different. i want to know what is the difference between the genital herpes hsv 1 and hsv2? It's kinda like saying what's the difference between Red Delicious and Granny Smith Apples?....they are both apples but different kinds. The same is true for hsv 1 and 2. They are both herpes viruses but different kinds. HSV1 tends to be the variety that is what we call 'cold sores' and HSV2 tends to be the variety that causes genital blisters. However, either variety can live in either place. So.....HSV! can be in the genital area and well as the lips and vice versa. There is no cure and they are treated the same. A blood test can determine is you have 1 or2 or both. A culture of the blister itself can also tell you if its 1 or 2. Since the treatment is the same, I don't usually culture the blisteres in the office. I do a blood test though. i dunno hsv1 is what causes cold sores on the mouth. hsv2 is what causes genital herpes. worry more that they are incredibly contagious and avoid touching them. see a doctor for great meds that reduce symptoms and increase healing time. HSV 1 usually causes oral herpes. The virus is somewhat specialised for the mouth, so it's a bit harder to catch in the genitals. Genital HSV 1 infection tends to be milder than genital HSV 2 infection, and it less likely that it will cause recurrent outbreaks. This depends on the person's immune system of course, but in general if a person gets genital HSV 2, whatever symptoms they have would have been milder if they had the HSV 1 virus instead. The same goes with oral herpes... Oral HSV 2 is usually milder because HSV 2 preffers the genitals. Also, as 80% or so of people already have the HSV 1 virus, they are immune to catching it again in a different spot. So if you have genital HSV 1 and your partner has ever had cold sores, you don't have to worry about spreading genital herpes to them because they already have the virus. |
