Can genital herpes be transmitted by toilets or drinking after someone? |
my best friend is spending the night and we think she may have herpes what should i do to be protective of myself and my family? The ONLY STD you can get from a toilet seat it pubic lice (crabs) and even this is REALLY rare. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years! I shared a bathroom with my two brothers all of those 5 years and they NEVER got herpes from me. They shared the same shower, same toilet, same sink, same drinks, same food, same a lot of things and they NEVER got herpes from me! You can ONLY get genital herpes from skin to skin contact and by sex. There are other ways, like childbirth, but this is less common. You can get cold sores, which is herpes, but not genital herpes, from sharing a drink with someone. It's not the liquid you are sharing though, it's the place where their lips were. If someone has cold sores you can get it from them by kissing them, or even sharing chap stick or lipstick with them. You can also get it from them by sharing a drink with them, but only where their lips were on the glass or straw, not the actually liquid itself. You can get mono, that way though, but that is a completely different virus. You really don't need to take any extra precautions around your friend. You won't get it from sharing a toilet seat with her. If you are really THAT concerned though, then wipe the toilet seat off after she uses it. And you are right, there is no cure for it, but the cream does suppress the virus and makes the symptoms of the virus go away (like the sores). But she will always have the virus because there is no cure. Source(s): Personal experience. I have genital herpes. There is NO way to get herpes from a toilet or drinking after someone!!! The only thing that you have to do to protect yourself and family from the herpes that you think your friend may be carrying around is NOT TO HAVE SEX WITH HER!!! You can only get genital herpes from SEXUAL CONTACT!!! Please don't make your friend feel unwelcome by treating her different because of this. If she is your friend, why are you ASSUMING she has herpes instead of being a good friend and asking and showing her some support? Maybe you can go to a website and get proper information for you and for her. Be a good friend. Have fun at your sleepover and remember, your friend is not contagious to you unless you have SEX with her. Peace. there's no way you can get it from the toilet or drinking from the same glass. only way is if you have direct skin to skin contact, so unless you'll be sleeping naked together on top of eachother, you won't have to worry. My Brain Herpes can go away and come back but its never healed. as you said. it can be transmitted through tolites like if she got pee on the seat and somehow you got it mixed with yours ya...you cant get it through drinking after them but its more as in touch their open wart. my friend has it ..and i was always worried about it i wouldnt smoke after him and so on but i wouldnt wear her bathing suites or underwear lol... |
