What do genital herpes look like ? Blisters appear around the genitals or anus or in the area where the virus entered the body. The blisters break within a few days and become painful, oozing sores. The sores usually heal within 3 weeks (without treatment) and do not leave scars. Sores that occur in women usually take longer to heal than sores that occur in men. Mine were so painful I was prescribed Vicodin! If you really want to know what they look like, do an image search. Source(s): Personal experience. I have genital herpes. Go to yahoo photos and type in the search for Herpes, you will get an eye full. They look like blisters..... Often they appear as small blisters and or ulcerations; they are painful. Sometimes you may have only one or two lesions. The 1st infection is usually the most pronounced Genital Herpes are red "bumps" that appear in or around the genital region, anus, vulva and vagina, and on the testicals and penis. They originally will appear as a blister, and then they will ooze a pust (sp?) and crust over and usually they will disappear in about 3 weeks.
