Serious Answers please: Genital Herpes? |
How easy is it to spread Genital Herpes? does it just have to be a touch from the open sore to a moist area? can it be tranfered by blood? can it be transfer by drinking from same glass, etc? please give me details, Thanks :) You have gotten some decent answers, but I wanted to add a couple of things. First, you aren't shedding every day. On average a person with hsv2 sheds about 4-6% of the time. It is also harder to pass it from a woman to a non-infected male. If you touch an open sore, then touch an area of your body that is a mucous membrane, like your mouth or genital area, then you could spread it that way, but its unlikely. If someone has oral herpes, almost always type 1, then don't share a drink or a fork, etc., with them. This is also good to prevent the spread of colds and flus. Check out the links below for more info. Source(s): http://www.westoverheights.com/freebookt... http://www.herpes.com/hsv1-2.html... http://boards.webmd.com/topic.asp?topic_... direct skin to skin contact. you're MORE LIKELY to spread it when there are open sores it cannot be transferred by blood or saliva or anything like that, it's a virus. From the National Institution of Allergies and Infectious Diseases: Genital Herpes: TRANSMISSION If you have genital herpes infection, you can easily pass or transmit the virus to an uninfected partner during sex. Most people get genital herpes by having sex with someone who is shedding the herpes virus either during an outbreak or during a period with no symptoms. People who do not know they have herpes play an important role in transmission. You can transmit herpes through close contact other than sexual intercourse, through oral sex or close skin-to-skin contact, for example. The virus is spread rarely, if at all, by objects such as a toilet seat or hot tub. Reduce your risk of spreading herpes if you want to read more information go to: http://www.niaid.nih.gov/factsheets/stdh... or http://www.cdc.gov/std/herpes/stdfact-he... or just do a goodle search on the subject. You are most likely to spread it while having an outbreak. It can still be spread without an outbreak, but the chances are a lot less. Unfortunately, you can pass on herpes at any time. However, you are MOST likely to pass herpes on during an active infection. (When you start to itch, burn, get blisters). Open blisters pass on herpes VERY easily, and since blisters can occur anywhere in the genital area, condoms will not protect from every blister! If you have herpes, just be honest with your partner. And talk to your dr about getting on meds to prevent outbreaks, like Valtrex. It's a pretty contagious disease. A person can spread the disease at any time if they have it and an open sore to a moist area will definitely spread it. Blood doesn't transmit the virus, it needs to be close skin to skin contact. Sexual intercourse, oral sex, and kissing usually. The virus dies rather quickly when outside the body but if you touch a sore and touch your eye it is possible to spread it. Usually this is when it is the initial outbreak. That's NOT common but hand washing is very important. You cannot get the virus through wet towels or from a toilet seat. If someone has a cold sore this is a form of oral herpes. It can be transmitted if you drink from the same glass as this person. If oral sex is given, the receiver will most likely contract genital herpes from that person's cold sore. Hope this helps. |
