So if you have genital herpes,does that mean the sores only appear on your genitals?

Or do they also appear on your mouth? I know there are different types, that`s why Im asking this question.

Genital herpes and cold sores are both caused by the herpes simplex virus. Traditionally Type 1 virus has caused cold sores and type 2 virus has caused genital lesions, however either virus can infect either site. Therefore, there ar no real distinguishing features aside from where the infection is. So, genital herpes, by definition is lesions on the genitals.
