Can you give yourself genital herpes from having a fever blister? |
Can you give yourself genital herpes from having a fever blister? Technically I guess you could, but this would be REALLY rare. The only way fever blisters (cold sores) can be transmitted to the genital area are by rubbing the fever blisters and then rubbing your genital area, or for you to give yourself oral sex (I don't know anyone who could do this though!). You would really have to rub A LOT in order to get genital herpes from your own cold sores. You would more likely get genital herpes from having sex with someone who has genital herpes or by having someone with cold sores give you oral sex. It's always a good idea for someone with cold sores to wash their hands after touching a cold sore. Source(s): Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years. Can you reach that far? I'm thinking, as I do work in the medical field... that you should never make an attempt at giving yourself oral sex... however, if you are referring to touching your fever blister and then touching your you know what... then you may not want to take the risk and make it a practice to wash your hands before and after going to the bathroom. If you are touching your you know what for other reasons... you may want to stop while the blister is active... okay, now stop diddling and go wash your hands ;-) No, these are two different kinds of herpes. One is oral, the other is genital. Former nurse What The HELL? |
