If a person has oral herpes can another person get genital herpes from having oral sex with them? |
If a person has oral herpes can another person get genital herpes from having oral sex with them? Absolutely! If a person has cold sores (herpes simplex virus 1) and gives another person oral sex, that person can develop genital herpes. Herpes simplex virus 1 is typically cold sores while herpes simplex virus 2 is typically genital herpes. I say "typically" because both herpes simplex virus 1 and 2 can cause BOTH cold sores and genital herpes. And remember, a person can pass herpes to another person whether they currently have sores present or not! In fact, according to Valtrex, 70% of people with genital herpes got it from a partner who was showing no signs or symptoms of the virus (like an outbreak). That's how I got it! Check out this site for more information: http://health.yahoo.com/ency/healthwise/... Source(s): Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years. DUH!!!!!Here's your sign. It does have to be active at the time. Oh my God, unbelievable. YEAH!!!!!! Looks like some real goofballs are answering tonight. First of all you are talking two different types of herpes so no, you do not get genital herpes from an individual with a cold sore. That is the same as you can't get chicken pox from someone with the mumps, same idea. Yes...the oral herpes can spread to the genital area. YES- How do you get Herpes? Herpes is spread by direct skin to skin contact. Unlike a flu virus that you can get through the air, herpes spreads by direct contact, that is, directly from the site of infection to the site of contact. For example, if you have a cold sore and kiss someone, you can transfer the virus to their mouth. Similarly, if you have active genital herpes and have vaginal or anal intercourse, you can give your partner genital herpes. Finally, if you have a cold sore and put your mouth on your partners genitals (oral sex), you can give your partner genital herpes. It is the gift that keeps on giving- be very careful! |
