Is there a blood test for genital herpes?-Guys, this is a bit graphic! Beware!?

Almost 10 years ago, I went to the ER and was told that I have genital herpes. I thought it was an allergic reaction to an over the counter yeast infection cream. Anyway, I was told that I have herpes. I have not had an outbreak since then. Remember, it was 10 years ago. I've thought for years that I don't have it since most reading I've done states that stress and other illnesses can cause an outbreak. Is there a blood test that can be performed to diagnosis this if no "blisters" or "sores" are present? The virus lays dormant in one's system, so once you have it, you always have it. Anyone out there know?

It is usually diagnosed when the person is on an outbreak (this is the best way to diagnose it).

If the person is not having an outbreak though they can have a blood test done. I have heard this is REALLY inaccurate though. I've read some doctors will even give the person 2 or 3 different blood tests and then compare the results of each test to the others.

Once a person has the virus though, they will ALWAYS have it. There is currently no cure for herpes. It is possible for a person to go years and years without having outbreaks though. Typically the longer you have the virus, the less outbreaks a person gets. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years now, my last outbreak was about 2 years ago. Source(s): Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years.
You need to go to the doctor if you have an outbreak, cant test in blood. If youve had it you have it forever.
Yes u should be re-tested by a Dr to find out for sure!!!!!
I do believe there is..just go to your gyn-ob and have a complete STD test run....
Yes there is
Natural Cures
Genital herpes is considered incurable. However, there is much that you can do using natural cures to significantly reduce the incidence of herpes outbreaks, as well as minimize the duration and severity of symptoms when outbreaks do occur. In some cases, it may be advisable to integrate a natural cures protocol with drug treatment, depending on the severity of your condition. Consult with a holistically trained physician to determine your best course of action.

Two important goals of your treatment program are to enhance your immune function and to diminish stress, since both of these factors play major roles in herpes outbreaks. The following natural cures are highly recommended to achieve both of these goals.

Aromatherapy: Tea tree, bergamot, eucalyptus, lavender, chamomile, palmarosa oil, true rose oil or melissa oil. Applied topically, these tinctures can help prevent outbreaks and speed recovery when they occur.

Ayurveda: To enhance immune function, combine the Ayurvedic herbs shatavari (500 mg), guwel sattva (200 mg), kamadudha (200 mg), and neem (300 mg) into a mixture and take two teaspoons twice a day after lunch and dinner. You can also apply tikta ghee topically as well as taking one teaspoon each day on an empty stomach.

Diet: Foods high in the amino acid arginine should be avoided, since arginine can trigger more frequent herpes outbreaks. Such foods include almonds, peanuts, and other nuts and seeds, including sesame and sunflower seeds, coconut, chocolate, wheat and wheat byproducts, soy, lentils, oats, corn, rice, barley, tomatoes, and squash. Sugars and artificial sweeteners should also be avoided, as should alcohol, tobacco, and immunesuppressant drugs. Also avoid acid producing foods, such as citrus fruits, including tomatoes, during outbreaks, as these foods will increase the severity of herpes outbreaks. Unhealthy fats, salt, and all commercial and processed foods should also be eliminated from your diet.

Healthy eating is of primary importance. Drink plenty of pure filtered water and increase your intake of fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, and complex whole grains, as well as organic, free-range meats, poultry, and wild-caught fish that are rich in essential fatty acids, such as sardines and salmon.

Avoid all commercial, processed, and nonorganic food, as well as alcohol, coffee, sugars, artificial sweeteners, preservatives, food dyes, milk and dairy products, wheat and wheat products, and refined carbohydrates. Do not eat saturated, trans-, hydrogenated or partially-hydrogenated fats and oils. Instead choose from virgin coconut butter/oil, extra virgin olive oil, high lignin flax seed oil, and unrefined hemp seed, walnut, and sunflower oils.

In addition, undergo testing for potential food allergies and sensitivities and avoid those foods to which you test positive, as these can reduce immune function. Consider a rotation diet or elimination diet in order to further reduce the likelihood of food allergies.

Nutrition and diet are key players in the healing and elimination of imbalance and disease. For a complete, nutrition packed, whole foods eating plan, read the Whole Foods Diet. In many cases, a raw food eating plan can be extremely beneficial. To learn more, read Raw Food Diet. You can print out these full articles for easy reference.

Herbs: A useful herbal remedy for herpes is to combine tinctures of Echinacea, goldenseal, nettle and Siberian ginseng in equal measures. Take half a teaspoon three times a day to boost immune function. Other useful herbs include Indian gooseberry, licorice root, and lomatium.

Homeopathy: The homeopathic remedies Rhus tox., Sepia, Nartum mur., Hepar sulph., Arsen alb., Caladium, and Acidum nit. can all help relieve symptoms and prevent future outbreaks.

Hyperthermia: Hyperthermia involves artificially creating fever in the body to boost immune function. Hyperthermia can be highly effective for eliminating toxins and infectious bacteria and viruses, many of which cannot survive in elevated body temperatures. Treatment causes a natural fever response and profuse sweating.

For herpes, hyperthermia in the form of hot baths can help. Although heat can aggravate herpes symptoms, it can also accelerate the healing process if you can tolerate it. Follow each hot bath with a short cold bath or sitz bath. Do this daily.

There are several at-home hyperthermia treatments. Please seek the advice of your alternative health care practitioner before undergoing these procedures to make sure they are appropriate for you.

*Purified water is essential for any hyperthermia treatment. Remedies for Treating Chlorinated Bath Water offers clear instructions and recommendations.

Juice Therapy: Carrot, beet, and celery juice combined together can help immune function. Avoid all citrus juices, however, including orange, grapefruit, and pineapple, as citrus can aggravate symptoms.

Lifestyle: As with other sexually transmitted diseases, herpes needs to be controlled by halting its spread between sex partners. It is contagious from the first signs of tingling until the skin is healed. During outbreaks, the following lifestyle guidelines are highly recommended:

Wear underwear to bed
Wash your hands before and after you touch any part of your body
Do not share your clothing or utensils with others
Avoid having sex during outbreaks if you have lesions on your genitals because condoms and other forms of protection cannot guarantee that you will not spread herpes to your partner
Avoid kissing others if they or you have blisters on or around the lips and mouth
Nutritional Supplements: The following nutrients can be helpful: vitamin A, B-complex, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, vitamin C, zinc, adrenal glandular extract, quercitin, and the amino acid lysine. Lauric acid, known as monolaurin, is also useful for preventing outbreaks. Avoid any supplement that contains the amino acid arginine.

Vitamin C powder added to a bit of water can be applied topically over lesions as a paste. This will help to quickly dry them up. Vitamin E oil applied topically is effective as well.

Topical Treatments: Salves made from one or more of the following ingredients can help soothe symptoms and speed healing: aloe vera gel, baking soda, calendula cream, goldenseal powder, licorice root powder, vitamin E oil, vitamin C paste, and zinc sulfate ointment. An ice compress applied topically can also assist healing.
