Is it possible to infect yourself with genital herpes by masturbating with your own saliva?


If you use your own saliva for lubrication when masturbating (spitting in your hand) is it possible to transmit herpes to your genitals? Even if you didn't currently, or have never had cold sores on your mouth?

I've read endless FAQs about HSV-1 and HSV-2 and never found an answer.

If you've never gotten cold sores before, I wouldn't worry. You can't transmit a virus that wasn't there to begin with.
Nice try, but WRONG! Many people who carry HSV-1 never develop cold sores. Otherwise, you're right in that you can't infect yourself with something that's not there.

If you have HSV-1, then yes, it may be possible to give yourself HSV-2. If you have never had an active cold sore in your life, then no, it is not possible. You should try lube or lotion instead for lubrication, I've heard they work and feel better.

About 60% of all people have HSV-1, the virus that causes cold sores. Many people who carry HSV-1 隆隆隆Never have cold sores!!! So if you have never had a cold sore, you might still be carrying HSV-1 anyway.

Can you spread the virus (and subsequent lesions) to your genitals? NO. Once it lives in its preferred site near your jaw, it doesn't want to live south of the border.

Can HSV-1 turn into HSV-2 (the virus that causes genital herpes?). NO. They're similar, but not the same.

Yes, you can catch HSV-1 and 2 if you have never had them previously, but acquire it from other sources, but I gather you already knew that.

In short, even if you have HSV-1 now (which you probably do), masturbating with spit isn't going to make your penis break out.

Still, if you're just masturbating, baby lotion is a better idea. It's better for your skin.
