When a person comes in contact with genital herpes how long does it take for a person to have a outbreak? It depends, every person is different. For many it can take any where from 2-20 days and for others it can take months and even years. I personally had my first outbreak about 3 weeks after I contracted the virus. Source(s): Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years. It can take from 2-6 months if you have never been exposed before it will come on relatively quickly - within a wk or 10 days. if it is your first outbreak you will not miss it as it is very painful with multiple sores. it definitely does not take 2-6 mos as other poster has said. Herpes can be undetected for long periods of time, that's why doctor suggest getting tested regularly for STDS, especially if you're having un-protected sex. It could definatly take longer than 10 days.... go to www.herpes.com Most people who are infected with HSV 2 or genital herpes are not aware of it because they never have any symptoms, or they do not recognize any symptoms they might have. However, if signs and symptoms occur during the first outbreak, they can be quite pronounced. When symptoms are present, they can be different in each person. Usually when a person becomes infected with herpes the first outbreak occurs within two weeks after the virus is transmitted, and the sores typically heal within two to four weeks. The first episode of symptoms usually last two to four weeks. http://www.biogetica.com/genital-herpes-... tells you all the symptoms of genital herpes |
