When a person comes in contact with genital herpes how long does it take for a person to have a outbreak?

if you have never been exposed before it will come on relatively quickly - within a wk or 10 days. if it is your first outbreak you will not miss it as it is very painful with multiple sores. it definitely does not take 2-6 mos as other poster has said.
Herpes can be undetected for long periods of time,that's why doctor suggest getting tested regularly for STDS, especially if you're having un-protected sex.
