Could you receive oral sex if you have genital herpes and not pass it on? |
Could you receive oral sex if you have genital herpes and not pass it on? Absolutely. There is always a chance a person can contract the virus from giving you oral sex but there is a chance they won't too. Just because a person gives you oral sex doesn't mean they will automatically develop cold sores. The same goes for regular sex too. Just because a person has sex with you doesn't mean they are going to automatically contract the virus from you. It is never 100% guarantee a person will contract an STD just because the other person has it. But if a person does have a STD and has sex with someone there is always going to be a chance they will pass it on. Nothing is 100% safe except abstinence. I have personally had genital herpes for 6 years now. I was with my ex for almost 4 years and he never contracted genital herpes from me. But, my fiance (boyfriend at the time) contracted the virus from me about 2 months after we started having sex. We also give and receive oral sex from each other and neither of us has ever had a cold sore. Source(s): Personal experience. probably not...it is a virus...direct contact is an issue It's easy to prevent the spread of herpes during oral sex. All you have to do is use protection. In your case, cover your genitals with a sheet on plastic cling film, or latex dental dam and you will avoid infecting your partner. While it may sound like a chore to you to use protection during oral sex, if you care enough about your partner, you'd do this simple thing to protect your partner's health. ADDENDUM FOR PAULKING: Those serodiscordant couples in the commercial you mentioned avoid transmitting the infection to their partners because they use BOTH protection and suppressive therapy (listen closely to the voice-over). Your advice is not only IGNORANT, it's RECKLESS. Shame on you! From the New England Journal of Medicine: http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/full... ADDENDUM FOR ALLI: I always like your answers. And I wonder whether you sleep because you're always on Y!A. But I should clarify what you said about the cold sores. Because you and your partner already have HSV-2 infecting the sacral ganglion, you're not gonna erupt into HSV-2 cold sores! The virus has already latched onto the preferred site of infection and does not want to inhabit the ganglia around the jaw. If you do have cold sores, it's coincidental and probably sue to previous HSV-1 infection. I work for your friendly local health department. |
