If both partners are infected with the same type of genital herpes...?

Both me and my girlfriend have genital herpes. If we have unprotected sex when neither of us is having an outbreak, can it make things worse for one or the both of us? She's concerned that, even when not during an outbreak, if we have unprotected sex maybe the virus could spread to other areas.

Right now we've both had only one outbreak. Both of in one genital area. But, say, if we were to have anal sex unprotected, is there a risk that the sores would break out in the anal area? Or if we were to have vaginal sex unprotected, could the sores appear in more areas of the vagina or penis?

Does this question make sense?

Yes, don't worry, your question makes sense.

OK, here's the thing. A lot of people get caught up in this fear because of where it is located. Because it is on the genitals, it must mean dastardly consequences. That is sooooo not true.

Let me give you an example of why this fear is over-rated.
80% of people are infected with herpes orally by adulthood.

Now a hell of a lot of those 80% of orally infected people continue on kissing other orally infected people and yet, nothing happens. No new outbreaks in new areas.

The same applies when it comes to it located genitally and no matter what strain it is.

Reinfection is extremely rare and in most cases it is reserved for someone who has an extremely low or deficient immune system. A lot of people get an outbreak in a new area that they might not have had one in before. A lot of those people think that they've been reinfectd. That is definitely not the case.

Herpes travels the path of nerves and since we have millions of nerves endings on our bodies, this means that an outbreak can potentially pop up anywhere.

Tell your girlfriend that I said......Relaaaaax!!!! and not to listen to people who have all the bad things to say.

You can't catch what you've already got. Source(s): HSV1 + & HSV2 +
Makes sense. If you have unprotected sex it can spread to those areas... getting worse where it is, i don't know.

Any mucus membrane is susceptible to the disease. Just wrap it up even though you both already have it.

Assuming you are male, be considerate of your girlfriend as she will be the one suffering. You already have it on your genitalia so if that is the way you have sex with her it won't spread for you but if you are having anal or oral sex with her, it will spread to those areas on her even if you don't have a current outbreak.
get rid of the virous
you know that is a very good question, If i were you I would consult with a real doctor, and get the correct answers, your health and your girlfriends health is worth it!
Nope! It is not going to make it worse. You both already have antibodies that will protect the rest of your body from it. Herpes is a virus, and like other viruses you generally cannot catch them twice. Otherwise most of us would be walking around with herpes all over our bodies. The case you already have will not get worse for the very same reason.

As far as breaking out in other areas, the anal, vaginal and the entire boxer short area is included in genital herpes. If you have it in any of those places, you have it in all of them. Where the outbreak will take place is determined by which nerve path the virus decides to "ride" to the surface. Some people frequently have outbreaks in the same location, and others have them in a different place each time. It is just one of those things. It is different for everyone, but having more sex will not add to the locations for outbreaks.

Sex itself can trigger an outbreak, so be sure to lube it up! You don't want to create friction that can irritate things.

Have fun!
your question was great. it also helped me thanx
