Is it possible for a woman to not know she has genital herpes.........? |
until over 10 years later, when she has her first outbreak? Genital herpes is caused by HSV (herpes simplex virus) not HPV (human papillomavirus). You're never a "carrier". You either have it or you don't. 25% of the population has HSV-2. Nearly 80% of those people don't know they have it because they don't have symptoms or they misdiagnose their symptoms. Typical symptoms of genital herpes are bumps that become fluid filled and then open up - much like blisters. They can be painful and burn, tingle and itch. However, every person's body handles the virus differently. Some people have such mild symptoms that they look like chaffing, heat rash, jock itch, insect bites, or pimples. Many people have immune systems that are able to suppress the virus to the point that they have no symptoms - like me. It is not only possible to be unaware of the virus for many years - it is very likely. Yes, it's possible b/c lot of times the infection is subclinical, (as the hiv for example) and the infected can't notice anything wrong. YES!!!YES@@@!!!!********** That's exactly what happened to me. I had no clue until I had a routine pap screening, and it came back abnormal. Long story short, it turned out that I had cervical cancer that had resulted in the HPV virus (genital herpes). When the doc told me I had genital herpes, I was laying down on the table, and I literally sat straight up and shouted "WHAT!!!??????" I had been with the same man for years, and before him I was only with my husband (ex, now of course). Doc reassured me that genital herpes can go undetected for up to 15 YEARS without being detected! I was So afraid my boyfriend at the time would think I had cheated on him or something when I told him, but after explaining that the doc said I could've gotten it from my ex husband (who cheated on me) he was understanding. If someone you know has the HPV virus, please make her get the routine checkups, as I always have.Mine was far advanced, and ended up being cancer, but I'm fine now and no cancer again as of now anyway. Personal exp. That is possible . Alot of people are asymptomatic and have no symptoms at all . Could it be that your recent partner is a carrier and doesn't know it . That is a possibility also . Yes it's very possible. the virus lies in wait in your nervous system. Usually at the base of your spinal cord. When it decides to rear it's ugly head, a person will have their outbreak. |
