Can cold sores and fever blisters lead to first outburst of genital herpes after 20 years? |
I am a 33 year old female who has had cold sores and fever blisters periodically for the last 20 years. I have just been diagnosed with genital herpes after my first outbreak of symptoms "down south". Could my recent "southern outbreak" be belated symptoms of my long time battle with herpetic mouth sores? I have been monogomous with my husband since we met just over a year ago. He has never had cold sores or any kind of STD and nor have I until now. In all the info I have read about herpes it says that symptoms usually occur within 2 to 20 days after being infected. I just wonder if this is something I need to worry about...like has my husband been unfaithful?...or is this just the same virus I have had but the outbreaks are just in the genital area instead of the mouth now? the herpes virus is sneaky. it can lay dormant in your system forever you can have it and never know you do. you could have contracted it 10 yrs ago w/ your 1st sexual experience and are just now getting an outbreak. outbreaks can be brought on by stress or hormonal changes. now if you have cold sores on your mouth and you kiss your husband then he performs oral sex on you or if you preform oral sex on him and then you have intercourse then yes it can be spread. you DO NOT have to have an open sore for it to be transmitted. you spread it b/c you have dead skin cells that are constantly shedding.... some of which may have the virus on it. www.herpes.com/Transmission.sh... that website will help as well Source(s): MA x 5 yrs @ ob/gyn office No, sorry. They are 2 very different types of the herpes virus. go to the store that have stuff to buy to protect the partner that dosen,t have the virus, or go to a walk in clinik they will help you but for cold sores by 500mg L-Lysine. Actually new reports say that HSV1 can be contracted genitally and vice-versa. When you were diagnosed did the doc do a type-test...or did they just say yes you have herpes??? I would get type tested if the latter is true. Though these viruses are different it's not by much, which is why they carry the same name and have the same treatments. There are numerous herpes zosters--something like 10+ including Bells Palsy and Shingles. Make sure your doc knew what they were talking about. Not many doctors are specialists in the STD field--and with something untreatable it's a little daunting to someone who's used to having a cure. Also, in a healthy body with little or no stress HSV lies dormant until some stress/illness causes it to rear its ugly head. It IS possible that you have had HSV for years and not known it. I have had it for almost 10 yrs now, and though I know where it came from, that person swears that they do not have it, nor have they ever had symptoms. (I have no reason not to believe him--we are great friends and share a child together.) Look into asymptomatic shedding. cdc.gov herpes.com I don't know the answer to your question, but I do know something that really helps with cold sores and maybe it works on genital herpes as well. Ask your pharmacist for Lactinex pills. You do not need a prescription, but they are kept in a fridge. If you can't find them, get Acidophillus from your health food store. My pharmacist told me about this. It's a natural microbe normally present in our bodies and it suppresses the herpes virus. When it gets low, herpes can break through. I feel like this is one of the best kept secrets when it comes to this ailment. I start taking the pills at the first tingle and most times it never develops into a fever blister at all!! It's truly amazing stuff. Never had this kind of luck with Lysine or any other product. Good luck to you, dear! |
