Is it really true that one out of five people have genital herpes?!?


EEWWWWEEE. that would mean that about 20% of you people here on yahoo answers have herpes?!

Yes that's true. In fact, it's about 1 in 4 women who have genital herpes and about 1 in 5 men.

I've never heard of that but I have heard that like 90% of the population has some form of herpes. That would mean that 9 out of 10 people on here have either oral or genital herpes. Thats kind of hard to think about.
its true that almost all of us have some kind of herpes and it is a latent infection that occurs if your are under stress or have a stressful stimuli like UV radiation, sunburn etc. chicken pox and Cytomegalo virus are only two of the 8 types a person can get. about 50% - 90% of all adults are infected with the virus - herpes simplex virus type 2 and don't even know it as it will only be evident if you are immunocompromised - caused by infections or stress or something like HIV and HTLV. it can be treated with an antiviral agent like acyclovir, but that only supresses the symptoms and the virus usually becomes latent in the lumbar-sacral area of the spinal cord.
