What precautions should I take if someone in the family has genital herpes? |
A family member just found out today that she has genital herpes. She has been sick for a while now and now we know why! We baby-sit her son in our house and my question is: can her son get it from his house (toilet) or can he get it on his mouth from drinking after her. And then can we get it? If she has genital herpes can it spred to her mouth and should she kiss on our children? The whole family is in a bit of a panic and I am not sure if we should be too. What should we be carefull with, what precautions should we take , and what should we watch for? Thanks guys.... Genital herpes is almost always spread by some sort of sexual contact. A person can NOT get genital herpes from using a toilet after someone with genital herpes. They also can NOT get genital herpes from a shower, bathtub, drinking after someone, touching their clothes, etc. A person CAN get ORAL herpes (cold sores) from kissing someone with them or sharing a drink, but NOT genital herpes. I have had genital herpes for over 6 years. I lived with my parents and two younger brothers for most of those 6 years. NONE of them ever got genital herpes from using the toilet after me. I've also had several family members and boyfriends (now exs) use the toilet after me and none of them ever contracted genital herpes. It's just not spread that way! Source(s): Personal experience. Well, you can only get GENITAL herpes by sexual contact. So I don't think her son or any of you have anything to worry about. **And "oneafter99" is wrong. Please read more about it: http://www.niaid.nih.gov/factsheets/stdh... FDA researcher Yes. you can be infected through birth and you may already have it not knowing it. Or you can touch clothes or whatever the area where it touched the person's affected area. There is no cure for it. 1 out of 3 woman is said to have if, 1 out of 4 man said to have it. I would go Natural Remedy try NAET therapy it may help weaken or prevent from getting a worst symptom. www.naet.com The herpes virus can spread from saliva, stop the kissing and when she drinks out of a glass take it to the dishwasher immediately. People who have ordinary herpes, cold sores, can spread the virus to the genital area and it mutates to genital herpes. I don't think I have to tell you to not wear her clothes but I will anyway. By the way, it can spread without any sign like a sore so always use precautions like good hygiene, washing hands a lot and of course anything she or her child eats or drinks out of. As for the toilet, use a disinfectant spray and wipe with a disposble tissue before using it. |
