When ever you use stats, especially when you use them in such in inflammatory way, you should cite them. And, the correct statistic is 1 in 5 Americans has genital herpes. And, the large majority of them do not know they have it. There is no test for herpes unless someone has a sore. People can have herpes and pass it to others without ever knowing it because they have never had any sores. Condoms, when used properly and every time, are highly effective ways of preventing the spread of sexually transmitted infections such as herpes. HPV is the virus that causes genital warts and cervical cancer. It is separate from herpes and not related at all. There is no vaccine for herpes. Use condoms each and every time you have sex. Insist on safer sex. And, most importantly feel comfortable enough with you partner to talk to him or her and be open and honest with each other.
