Is there an effective non-prescription product to prevent, or shorten the duration, of genital herpes outbreak Yup! Take L-Lysine everyday! You can get it at any store that sells Vitamins and it's cheap. This prevents outbreaks and I think it works better than valtrex, plus you don't need to go to the doctor, how embarassing. If you have an outbreak rub Tea Tree Oil on the sore, and with in 2 days it will dry up and clear away. Also increase the amount of L-Lysine you take daily. I take 4 pills a day, when I wake up and when I go to bed. All of this you can get at Rite Aid walmart...wherever...and it's all under 10 bucks! Source(s): duh. No, you have to take the antiviral medication, like Valtrex. There is nothing over-the-counter for this. I do FDA research you might try vitamin C + l-lysine. I don't have genital herpes, but I do get canker sores (a form of herpes) and these two items shorten the duration of an attack. Lysine supplements are suppose to work. This girl I know says no outbreaks in 5 years since taking lysine. They have it in drug and health stores and even at the grocery store but you have to take it everyday. I think you take more for actual outbreak. Should consult physician about proper dosing. You can get acyclovir ointment without a prescription in Australia nowadays: you can even buy it in supermarkets. It's not quite as effective as acyclovir (or famcyclovir or similar) taken as tablets, but if you use it at the first tingle it should help (as it does with mouth herpes). Check with your local pharmacy about whether you can get it without prescription where you live, or check the cold sore section of your supermarket. Note: acyclovir and famcyclovir are the active ingredient, not the brand name. I think the scientific consensus is that L-lysine doesn't work, although some people swear by it. |
