Is it true you are at a higher risk for catching HIV when you have genital herpes ?? and why is that? Yes it is true. People with herpes are at a higher risk of HIV transmission because of open blisters. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/herpes_simp... Source(s): Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for 6 years. having another infection does not make you more prone to catching HIV. it is the behavior associated with having the disease that makes you more likely to catch HIV. be sure to always use a condom and know your sexual partner. while there are no gaurantees, making smarter choices when it comes to sex makes a big difference. It is true that if you have a flare up of Herpes or HPV (genital warts) at the time that you are having unprotected sex, you can increase your chances of getting HIV. Herpes and HPV are open sores, or open blisters and open skin that allow any fluid containing HIV into your body. Yes, but only when you have an outbreak. Simply b/c it is considered an open sore and the tranmission of HIV is easier through open wounds. But there's a trick you don't always know when you have an outbreak b/c it could be inside. Unfortunately the answwer is YES. The open blisters make it easier for blood products and body fluids to easily transfer. |
