Does anyone know the statistics on how many people in the U.S. have genital herpes? |
Or does anyone know where I can find that information? Results of a nationally representative study show that genital herpes infection is common in the United States. Nationwide, at least 45 million people ages 12 and older, or one out of five adolescents and adults, have had genital HSV infection. Between the late 1970s and the early 1990s, the number of Americans with genital herpes infection increased 30 percent. Genital HSV-2 infection is more common in women (approximately one out of four women) than in men (almost one out of five). This may be due to male-to-female transmissions being more likely than female-to-male transmission. http://www.cdc.gov/std/herpes/stdfact-he... Source(s): Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for over 6 years. The CDC has some great information. Here is a table from 1966-2005 http://www.cdc.gov/std/stats/tables/tabl... and a few statistics from the site: More than one in five Americans-45 million people in the U.S are infected with genital herpes (Fleming, 1997). From the late 1970s to the early 1990s, herpes prevalence increased 30 percent (Fleming, 1997). Preliminary 1999 data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) suggest that the prevalence of hsv-2 has remained relatively stable over the 1990s. In 1999, the estimated prevalence was 19 percent among the general U.S. population ages 14 to 49 years old (McQuillan, 2000). An estimated 86 million people worldwide are thought to have genital herpes, and many more suffer with labial herpes or cold sores which affect lips, mouth and face. Both are highly contagious when active sores are present. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/... you can find that information in the internet Visit this website http://www.herpetica.com There is a lot of information. the doctor i work for says 1 in 4 people in the us has Herpes |
