Can touching a cold sore and then touching your genitals end up giving u genital herpes?


i got a small blister inside my mouth, and now my lip feels kinda itchy and dry. im not sure if im getting a cold sore. the blister was painless and has popped and wnt away. im thinking maybe all this is a reaction to some really strong hydrogen peroxide mouthwash i used that really burned. but if it is can oral herpes cause genital herpes? can u spread it across urself?

Cold sores appear on your lips are they are usually pretty big, not like a small blister in your mouth. They also usually don't pop and go away. They can scab when they open up and it can take a while to heal. I don't think you had a cold sore, it doesn't sound like it anyway.

But yes, theoretically if you touch a cold sore and rub your genital area you can get genital herpes. It is REALLY rare to get it that way, but technically you could. If you have a herpes blisters and need to touch it for some reason you need to wash your hands really good after you touch it. You shouldn't be touching the sores anyway unless you are putting medication on them. The more you touch them, they more they can spread. Source(s): I have herpes.

did you have cold sores before? if not, then for sure you shouldn't have to worry that is unless you got it from someone else :(
