If you have a cold sore on your mouth can you give your self genital herpes on accident? |
If you have a cold sore on your mouth can you give your self genital herpes on accident? like from touching it and than touching genitals. serious answers Yes, it's called self reinfection. This is pretty rare but it can happen. People also get herpes in the eye (keratoconjunctivitis) by doing this. If they touch a cold sore and then rub their eyes then can spread it to their eyes. This is why it is ALWAYS a good idea to wash your hands EVERY time after you touch a cold sore or herpes sore. You don't want to accidentally spread it to other parts of your body. Check out this link for more information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/herpes#self... ***Also, some people are REALLY confusing cold sores and genital herpes. They are NOT two different strains, they are the same virus! Cold sores can be caused by herpes simplex virus 1 or 2. And, genital herpes can be caused by herpes simplex virus 1 or 2. Usually cold sores are caused by herpes simplex virus 1 though, while genital herpes is usually caused by herpes simplex virus 2. I personally have had genital herpes for 6 years now. Mine is caused by herpes simplex virus 1 (which is usually cold sores). But, I have NEVER had a cold sore in my life. Herpes simplex virus 1 and 2 affect BOTH the mouth and the genital area. They are the same virus! Source(s): Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for 6 years. You cannot get genital herpes from yourself, but from a partner or other individual you can !! Watch out for these horrid Stds , and go to your local Clinic now to get Tested !! No....they are 2 different strains of herpes. The herpes that you get on your mouth...is a totally different herpes you get on your genitals. No you can not, herpies and a cold sore are two very different things. No, they are both considered herpies, but different types. No it can't spread from mouth to genital areas, not even through oral sex. I'm not sure, but typically the kind on your face is not the same as the kind on your hoo hoo. So probably NOT. |
