Genital Warts, Herpes or Jock Itch? |
I have two large red spots on my groin just to the left and the right of my penis. They look like mosquito bites, they are reddish, very slightly elevated and about 3 centimeters (1 inch across). They itch a very little, mostly just when I shower. I am in South Korea, went to the doctor today, (doctors speak almost perfect english here) anyway he said it was definitely not herpes and gave me a prescription for anti fungal cream. He said he couldn't be sure it wasn't an STD of some other kind though, and recommended I see a dermatologist. He didn't have one to refer me to, and tracking one down that I have time to see anytime soon might be difficult, so I ask for your input. I have been a little too high risk, had sex without condom with the last girl I was with which was a pretty short term thing which ended a month and a half ago. I'm awaiting test results for HIV and syphillis now, but in the meantime I'd like to know what the skin irritation I have now is. Thanks. Maybe they are just insect bites. I can't think of a single std like that and a doctor had looked at it already. I would definitely try my hardest to see a dermatologist cause they're the only one who will know but no "std" comes to mind with your symptoms not even warts. I have genital herpes but got some weird new bump recently and it turned out to be friction burn it sounded very similar to what you described. it sounds like chlymidia get tested for it I am a women's health care provider, so men aren't exactly my area of specialty, but I know a thing or two. Herpes will almost always ulcerate and open up. But it starts out like a pimple, so the first few days it can be hard to tell, even for your doctor. Usually smaller than 3 cm, though -- that's huge. A culture is also sometimes falsesly negative if it is done too early, before it starts to drain (or if too late, when it's almost healed). So watch it and see. Genital warts (condylomata) are not smooth red bumps -- they are a rough, irregular, fleshy texture, and either pink or white. It doesn't sound like what you've got at all. Chlamydia, gonorrhea and trichamonas do NOT cause pimples or anything like that. You could have a little discharge or burning with urination. But many men have no symptoms at all, so you should be tested if you have had unprotected sex. Syphilis can cause painless red bumps. You should be tested for this, since you had unprotected sex, and you will need another test in 3-6 months. It certainly could be fungal. But usually fungal infections are flat, not raised. See if the medication works. Another possibility (maybe the most likely) would be infected hair follicles ( pimples, basically). The heat, sweating, etc could make this more likely. For now, I would soak with very warm water four times a day. Then apply bacitracin or another topical antibiotic ointment. Alternate this with the anit-fungal medication, and it won't interfere. And please be more careful and use condoms from now on. Do you want to go through all this worry every time you have sex?? (And for goodness sakes, please don't pass anything on to any of my female patients.) Good luck! It's called Korean VD --- you can never get it up again !!!!! where it is a rubber wouldnt have helped. |
