Glaucoma, eye drops or no? |
Glaucoma, eye drops or no? If your doctor has perscribed them to you ,yes take them ! yes but under strict medical supervision. It's always wise to ask questions like this of random, anonymous strangers instead of your doctor. There are special or specific type of eye drops for Glaucoma. Of course it is best to talk with your doctor before making any medical decisions, such as this. Glaucoma is an eye disease. The pressures in the eye are to remain at a basically constant pressure. If the pressures get out of control and increase they can do permanent damage to the cornea, through rupturing or separation. The cones and rods at the back of the eye can be damaged as well as the optical nerve where it connects to the eye ball. The use of drops can regulate the internal eye fluid pressure to a point of acceptance. If the drops do not do the job, than either the use of laser or the scalpel may have to be used to reduce pressures There are many eye drops available for glaucoma. They range in cost, contraindications, and how many times you use them a day. If you have glaucoma, you really should be on eye drops unless they are not helping. I know it can be a hassle to remember the drops and adminiser them, but like someone else already said, it sure does beat being blind. If you have concerns or any questions, just ask your eye doctor. not if the doctor did not give them to you. glacoma is a serios matter. Actually you may have more options then eye drops if you have open angle glaucoma. There is Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty or SLT, where they can control the pressure of the eye with a laser instead of drops.
