I,ve been told that i have borderline glaucoma how do i prolong this or stop it from happening? The only way you can prevent this from happening is to use special eye drops prescribed by an ophthalmologist. I cannot tolerate these unfortunately, so every 2 years I have a new procedure called OCT (optical coherence tomography) which measures the thickness of the retinal cells to make sure they are still O.K. and gives me a bit more time. Reduce your blood pressure for a start. Any glaucoma has to be treated lifelong. predisposing conditions like hypertension and diabetes have to be controlled and drugs to lower tension of the eyes to be instilled. to be honest im scared about it i do not know i am being told that im borderline for diabetes so im just trying to figure out are they telling me i have it or not can u please help me with learning how i can pull from it if i dont have it yet.. My Father went blind from Glaucoma, but he was will-full and stubborn and ignored what he was supposed to do. The objective of treatment is to reduce intraocular (in the eye) pressure. Depending on the type of glaucoma, this is achieved with medications or by surgery. Glaucoma is defined as progressive optic nerve damage. I think if you are told you have borderline glaucoma, that probably just means your eye pressures are a little high. The majority of people with elevated eye pressures do not develop glaucoma, so someone in your situation should just be monitored periodically by a glaucoma specialist. If the pressures continue to be high and you are in a high risk group for developing glaucoma, the doctor may put you on glaucoma eyedrops to lower the pressure and hopefully delay development of the disease. Youe eye pressures are high. You MUST get them down. Failure to do so will mean the pressure will damage your optic nerve and you will lose at first some peripheral vision. I hate to say this but once gone that PV NEVER comes back. |
