Queastion about results of glaucoma test?

during my eye exam my Dr. mentioned that I was at the high end of the scale but didn't have time to explain what that meant.

what exactly does that mean? he also said the points started at 14 and I was near 21 or 22 points

he is talking about your intra-occular pressures.

Glaucoma is a condition in which the optic nerve gets destroyed from the outside in....also known as tunnel vision.

No one knows for sure whether high pressures inside the eye CAUSE glacoma, but statistically they know that high pressures aren't the best thing to be walking around with.

Yes, if your pressures are 21-22 they are at the high end of the scale. You will probably be referred to an opthamologist for further testing, and something called a field test...where you look into a machine and click a button when you see a light flash. The opthmologist will do a closer inspection of your optic nerve and recommend a follow up treatment.

This will be a lifetime thing. You will probably be scheduled to go in for eye exams and field tests twice a year, and may be put on a daily medication to reduce the presssure.
