Supplements for Glaucoma 鈥?has anyone tried this???

My brother is only 30 years old and he was recently diagnosed as open angle glaucoma. His eye pressure is still in the normal range. I have been looking for some dietary supplements for him.

After doing some research on the internet, all I found was this 鈥淩ebuild Your Vision Ocu-Plus Formula鈥? There are many web sites with different names but basically from the same guy selling this product. I couldn鈥檛 find any other information other than the one on his web sites. I don鈥檛 know how long it has been around and whether there are side effects. So, I am pretty hesitate buying it for my brother, because I don鈥檛 have any other information about the supplement other than those provided by on his own web sites.

Has anyone here tried this? Or, does any have any other recommendations on the supplements good for glaucoma? Thank you!

A lot has changed with the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma in the past 10 years. It is possible to have normal pressure and still have glaucoma, which is the case with your brother. We call this normal tension or low tension glaucoma and it is something to be very concerned about. And I often prescribe medication to lower the pressure, even if it is still in the normal range. Hopefully your brother is seeing his eye doctor on a regular basis (every 3 to 4 months) and getting the care he needs. There is no research on supplements and glaucoma.

I would think it would be a lot safer to check out any kind of so called supplements with his Eye Dr. first.

Not all supplements are as safe as they say they are.

With the list of active ingredients, the Dr. will be able to advise if it may even have an adverse effect on the problem.

If his pressure gets too high, the Dr. will prescribe drops to use to control it. Until then, IF that ever happens, there probably isn't much to do about it. As long as the pressure is in the normal range, there is no real cause for concern .

There is no research to support supplements for glaucoma. Glaucoma is mostly due to inherited anatomy. Prescribed eye drops do a very good job of treating the disease and preventing blindness.

The most important thing for him to do in addition to his prescribed drops is to not smoke
