My friends son (8 years old) has Glaucoma. Is there a cure?

His eye pressures are dangerously high - 45 - and the drops don't seem to be lowering them. He has had laser surgery but this hasn't worked either - his eyes healed too quickly for it to work. His mum, and grandfather are completely blind due to Glaucoma. Is there a cure? - or are they close to finding a cure. What else can be done? My friend is so worried that her son may go blind like she did.

She is worried as although it would be unusual to go blind from this condition at such a young age, she lost her sight through it by the age of 12, and her older son (12) is already blind in one eye (from the same condition)

Firstly I am sorry to hear of your friends sons eye disease .Unfortunately Glaucoma still can't be cured . The next stage for him will be an operation called a trabeculectomy . This is where they make a channel in the eye to aid the fluid reduction. I am waiting to get this operation done as lasering did not work for me .I have suffer red from this problem myself and have done for 20 years. I wish him good luck and as long as he never misses appointments and takes the hospitals advise there is no reason for him to lose his vision.

Research and try (Ocudyne 2) it has all kinds of vitamins and minerals and herbs for the eyes, think I was reading somewhere that it dissolves cataracts, and my help glaucoma, I don't remember too much, but I'd look into it. you can find it at http://www.evitamins.com/product.asp?pid... and http://www.outletnutrition.com/713947510... for starters. I know one form of glaucoma to be called in Spanish (carnocidad), you see it in alot of people where their darker eye begins to get covered by the white around it like if pulled over. Here's something from: the fourth edition of "The vitamin herb guide", GLAUCOMA: (Hypertension of the eye), specifics: It is believed that restoration of vision lost due to nerve degeneration cannot occur. However the vitamins and herbs listed can be effective in controlling and preserving the remaining sight. HERBAL SUPPLEMENTATION: Herbal Eyebright Formula, KB, Bilberry, Extress. PHYSIOLOGIC ACTION: these herbs work to restore balance to the system. They supply nutrition to the eye, while helping to remove excessive fluids and toxins. They also help to reduce problems associated with stress. NOTE: It is important to keep in contact with you doctor while working with the serious eye problem. HERB COMBINATION: A good comprehensive multi-vitamin mineral formula, REFERENCES: "How to Get Well"----P.Airola, "Health Bulletin"----Feb15, 1964, "British Journal of Ophthalmology".

I'm sorry to hear your friend and her family have this condition.
My aunt has this condition herself, hers developed at 29 and although her sight has gone downhill recently, she will be 50 in October.
So it could be many years before your friend's son has vision problems, if at all. I hope he gets well soon.

Hi!!netty Unfortuately there is no cure it is inherited from family to offspring. it is very rarely that one finds it in
someone so young. it can be controlled with the drops; but they have to find the correct strength and application is twice daily.

No sorry no cure i am afraid so sorry to hear he has this.

There is no cure whatsoever i'm afraid.
