"Contact the local Department of Motor Vehicles and report your concerns. Depending upon state regulations and your senior's disabilities, it may be illegal for them to continue to drive. The DMV may do nothing more than send a letter, but this might help convince your parent to stop."

I'm suprised the DMV continues to renew their license.

Here is a good webpage on the subject.

You may want to contact your FIL's doctor first, and get his recommendation. But that might be difficult if you're not the Primary Care Giver. But if you explain the situation, I'm sure the doctor will help.

Once you have a doctor's recomendation that the patient NOT drive, take it to the BMV, and ask that they cancel his license.

Now, that won't make him stop driving! Most older people, valuing their freedom, will continue to drive even without the license, but maybe the threat of arrest and punishment will scare him enough to make him stop.

Depending on who's responsible for his care, they may also be able to sell his car . . .

And consider -- it is unlikely that the courts would put a 92-year-old man in jail -- but you donlt need to tell HIM that.

1: "froggy" gave you some excellent advice.

#2: I would also call your local police and tell them what is happening; be ready to give them the license plate number and description of Gramps' car.

#3: you might have to consider some 'guerrilla' tactics, including buying a "Club" and putting it on the steering wheel of his car and not giving him the key. You might also have to do other things to keep him from driving, including letting the air out of all his tires and/or disabling hims car in some other way.

#4: Consider calling his eye doctor; despite the sanctity of the doctor-patient relationship, his eye doctor should recognize the danger that Gramps poses for the public; ask the doctor that because of the grave nature of this situation, if the doctor himself would contact your state's Department of Motor Vehicles and tell them that Gramps should not be driving because of his diagnosis.

If there are grandsons let they it about it, will ask
