Should i be worried about a further test at the hospital as my eye test was on the border line for glaucoma? |
the optician says he has to send me because it was not a normal reading and by law he had to send me for a second opinion.he said he didn't think there was anything to worry about as there was no glaucoma in the family only cataracts as any one been through this before.cheers Yes...I have been there. There is a common misconception that glaucoma means having high eye pressure. It does not. It MAY be the result of prolonged high eye pressures, but it can also manifest without overly high pressures at all and some people with very high pressures for years never develop glaucoma. What you have is elevated intraocular pressure. It is considered a risk factor for glaucoma so they want an actual doctor to check the health of your retina and optic nerve to screen for the onset of glaucoma. Glaucoma is a characteristic pattern of nerve fiber destruction in the retina and optic nerve. |
