What is glaucoma?

Glaucoma is the name for a group of diseases that can destroy the optic nerve. The optic nerve is a bundle of nerve fibers that carries information from the eye to the brain.

Glaucoma can lead to irreversible blindness by damaging the optic nerve.

Glaucoma literally means "hard eyeball." Any one of the conditions classified as glaucoma can lead to irreversible blindness by damaging the optic nerve.

Symptoms of Glaucoma?

Unfortunately, in the early stages of glaucoma, the only symptom is a gradual loss of vision. Vision loss usually begins with the peripheral vision. Peripheral vision is what you can see off to the sides when you are looking straight ahead. Source(s): http://www.mamashealth.com/eye/glaucoma....
