Teenage with glaucoma, certain of blindness? |
A friend of mine who is in high school has glaucoma. Given the considerably young age he is in, what are the chances that he will develop blindness (presuming he takes medication/laser treatment) and around what age would he presumably become blind, if, God forbid he does. I'm 18-years-old, and I was born with glaucoma. It's not a big deal at all, but you HAVE to go for a check-up to an Opthomologist at least once a year. I take eyedrops and see my opthomologist once every 6 months, and everything is fine. There is no reason for someone with glaucoma to go blind if they are vigilant about check-ups and treatment. You just have to stay on top of it. I'm willing to say that your friend will NEVER go blind if he sees a qualified opthomologist about his condition. He should be absolutely fine. i also have glaucoma. i am really sad about it. how are your eyes, optic nerve, pressure, etc. ? yes he will become blinds if he will not have a medication for glaucoma. Tell him to start using marijuana ASAP! That will help and maybe even cure! I am 41 years old, and I developed glaucoma when I was in high school also. I remember how terrrified I was of losing my sight! Twenty five years later, I can still see very well. As a matter of fact, I havent lost any vision at all. Tell you friend that as long as he takes his medication AS DIRECTED and sees his doctor, he can be sure of a lifetime of vision. |
