Another Question About Glaucoma? |
Isn't this usually in the family? I have no history that I know of in my family with this. The eye dr. tested me with air pressure and said I am risk for it because it was in the high 20's..... I always blink at the wrong time and I squint kinda tight so I won't blink the second time, lol. Could this change the pressure? I would love any info on this. Thanks! BTW: I am 21 years old if this makes any difference. Firstly, screwing your eyes up or rubbing them does increase the pressure readings with the air puff tonometer. Statistically, 2% of the population over the age of 40 get glaucoma. When a close relative has it (mother / father / brother / sister), their chance increases to 20%. The chance increases with age and also occurs more often in Afro-Caribbeans. A visual field test will determine whether someone has glaucoma (often a test looking for flashing lights you don't look directly at). It would be very unusual for someone your age to develop glaucoma but continue with regular eye examinations. If you do ever develop it, it can be easily controlled with modern medication. |
