How was gonorrhea treated "BEFORE sulfa drugs (1937), and what were the lifelong effects on the sufferer? |
That is the World War "ONE" - 1920s period. Sulfa drugs were not available until 1937. Please don't answer unless you are knowledgeable about this issue and period in medicine. Thank you for answers. Generally only men were treated. The most grotesque treatment involved inserting a heated metal rod into the urethra. I guess to make sure that it stayed open so urine could pass while the debilitating effects of the disease attacked the brain. |
