Can I treat gonorrhea with doxycycline?

No. But since most gonorrhea patients ALSO have chlamydia, you'll probably get prescribed it in addition to the treatment for gonorrhea.

Since gonorrhea is a different disease caused by a totally different organism, doxycycline won't touch it.

I know that was not the answer you are looking for. But I can tell you what the CDC is suggesting, especially as resistant bacteria are becoming a problem so other antibiotics are more recommended now.

For gonorrhea without any other complications (i.e. limited to the cervix, urethra, rectum) or infections, the suggestions are
-ceftriaxone 125mg as an injection
OR
-cefixime 400mg by mouth AND treatment for chlamydia if that is not ruled out

If you cannot take those medications other alternatives are
-spectinomycin 2g injected (only available outside the US)
OR
-cephalosporin

I know it treats chlamydia, but I'm not sure about gonorrhea...

It is an antibiotic in the tetracycline family, but I would talk to my doctor before taking them to try to get rid of it. You may need a different antibiotic.
