What are my chances I contracted HIV?

I had oral sex about a month ago, with no protection (Just oral, not intercourse). For over a month, no symptoms, now I have a cough, slight sore throat, which could just be a cold. I did not get any semen in my mouth, but there was no condom. Can I even get HIV/AIDS this way? I'm really freaking out, help!

OK - it's highly, highly unlikely that you have HIV. While it is remotely possible to catch it from oral sex (he'd have to come in your mouth or his penis would have to be bleeding and you would have to have a cut or open sore in your mouth or throat), your current symptoms are not HIV. In fact HIV doesn't really have symptoms - only when it gets to the AIDS stage do you get sick and that takes many years - not a month.

You can only catch HIV through bodily fluids - semen and blood. You can not catch it from kissing. While the virus can be present in tears, saliva and sweat it is not in a high enough concentration to cause infection. Even oral sex is low risk, as the mucus membranes in the mouth and throat create an good barrier against infection.

Sorry to sound harsh, but maybe you should stay away from sexual activity until you understand the risks. If you can ask a question here you can google about STD's, including HIV and learn some facts and how to protect yourself. There are other STD's that you can catch through oral sex but I'd say it's a safe bet you've just got a cold and are being paranoid.

First does your partner have HIV?

The majority of HIV infections are acquired through unprotected sexual relations. Sexual transmission can occur when infected sexual secretions of one partner come into contact with the genital, oral, or rectal mucous membranes of another.

(usually 2-4 weeks post-exposure) most individuals (80 to 90%) develop an influenza or mononucleosis-like illness called acute HIV infection, the most common symptoms of which may include fever, lymphadenopathy, pharyngitis, rash, myalgia, malaise, mouth and esophagal sores, and may also include, but less commonly, headache, nausea and vomiting, enlarged liver/spleen, weight loss, thrush, and neurological symptoms. Infected individuals may experience all, some, or none of these symptoms.

You and your partner could both be tested to be 100% certain and peace of mind. But it doesn't sound like you have hiv. Use more caution when having sex to keep yourself from stressing out.

I guess it's possible (anything is possible!) to get HIV this way, but I really don't think it is likely. If you don't understand the risks of sexual activity, then don't participate until you find a way to get better informed. Go to a clinic and discuss this with a doctor or get a book or two in the library.

You have a cold. I'm sure you have felt the same symptoms ever before you had sex.

most likely you wont have it unless you had cuts in your mouth..that's how they're transmitted through oral sex..If you didn't and the fluids got in your throat..stomach acids would kill any bacteria/virus..

Ewww sick! I hope you haven't got it mate, i would get checked out asap though.

DOCTOR NOW!

Go to a clinic, get checked. It's really very easy and typically free.

are you gay?
