Will a general blood exam can detect if your HIV Positive or not?

I just had my blood test for my uric acid level. If I am positive with HIV or any viral infection can this be detected? Or do they have to run a different/separate test?

The only way to find out if you have HIV is to get an HIV test. HIV testing is never automatically included as part of other blood testing, because it requires the written consent of the person being tested. You need to request an HIV test and sign a consent form.

No, you need to specifically ask for a HIV test. They are done for almost any reason, DO NOT BE EMBARASSED TO ASK. If you tell your PCP (primary care physican) that you would like to get tested for STDS they should run a basic STD panel of tests.

it may show up if they decide to do an over rall testing, but most time its your initative to ask for a specific blood exam type. but if not all viral infection most likely theyll rather check the hiv

they have to run a special test for HIV and they have to have your permission.
